Vernon, BC. April 25, 2013 – tekmar Control Systems, a Watts Water Technologies company, has added a new touchscreen thermostat to its designer series to offer more options and flexibility to HVAC system designers.
The tekmarNet® Thermostat 553 is now available for purchase and orders will begin shipping immediately. The tekmarNet® Thermostat 553 is a communicating thermostat designed to operate two heating stages, one cooling stage, a fan and relative humidity. The heating stages can be hydronic, forced air or a single stage heat pump. The cooling stage is either an air conditioner or heat pump.
“What is unique about the 553 is it can operate a radiant floor heating and cooling system together with either an air distribution heat pump, hydronic fan coil, or a forced air furnace. The touchscreen display is easy to read, simple to navigate and quick to set and adjust,” said Greg Leupin, sales & marketing manager for tekmar.
There are two auxiliary sensor inputs available to measure room, floor, outdoor, coil or duct temperature. The optional floor sensor allows precise heating of radiant floors by controlling the floor temperature and maintaining the desired room air temperature. Relative humidity level can be measured and controlled using the built-in humidity sensor.
The tekmarNet® Thermostat 553, like the other thermostats in the series, features the best options for radiant floor control. “Each thermostat offers a set of features to best suit a range of applications, making the designer series a more complete offering,” added Leupin.

Vernon, BC. February 22, 2013 – tekmar Control Systems, a Watts Water Technologies company, is pleased to announce that the Boiler Control 284 is now available for purchase.
The Boiler Control 284 is designed to operate up to four boilers to accurately maintain a target water temperature. The 284 operates both condensing & non-condensing boilers that are either modulating, single stage or two stage to provide a flexible, cost effective mixed boiler plant solution with better system performance.
“This control communicates with Building Automation Systems, which is an exciting new market for tekmar. The system can be remotely monitored & adjusted through BACnet® or Modbus® communication,” said Greg Leupin, sales & marketing manager for tekmar.
This connection makes it possible for installers & building managers to monitor boiler operation, plant temperatures, vent temperatures, system pressure, flow rates & pump operation using the BAS system interface. When no BAS connection is required, remote monitoring can be provided through tekmarNet® Gateways.
The 284 is designed to prolong the lifespan of the equipment. Primary pump sequencing prevents downtime by automatically operating a second pump if a failure is detected. Other reliability features include pump exercising, equal run-time rotation, and boiler minimum & maximum temperature settings.
To obtain maximum efficiency, the 284 adjusts plant sequencing based on target temperatures. This target is calculated using outdoor temperature reset or a fixed setpoint for space or process heating applications. The 284’s automatic boiler differential, primary pump sequencing, domestic hot water priority, setpoint operation & combustion air damper control all work together to maximize energy savings & system reliability.
“The 284 is a price competitive, flexible solution for commercial & multi-residential heating plants. This control supports any combination of boiler type, and saves energy with better boiler sequencing and control,” adds Leupin.
